Longtime Runner chooses seat in back.

Here's my 6 word memior for today's decision:

Longtime runner chooses seat in back.

Or perhaps I might sum it all up by:

Tired of running, Sara chooses sideline.

These thoughts, in memior form of course, come as a result of my relevation today to (most likely) not run the marathon that Frank and I (or Frank and Frank) have been training for. Truth be told, my training has been pitiful at best. I have managed to get the long runs in, with his careful coaching, chiding, and reminding that they matter, but the rest of the week I'm consumed with other things to do.

Paint.
Write.
Eat.
Shop.
Read.
Starbucks.
Grad Class.

Admitting to myself that maybe it's time for me to sit one out and cheer on Frank has been hard. I'm not a quitter. "Fine. Just quit. Go ahead, do it." Frank teases me, sure that my competitive spirit will rise above my deisre to be complacent on the sidelines, a common spectator. Where's the spectacle in my decision to bow out gracefully? I refuse to see one.

Maybe I'm at a time in my life where running should take the backseat. Maybe it's time to explore my other interests which have been building up inside of be, tugging at my heart, asking quietly for running to move over. Can't there be room for all of them?

I'm so close. To Boston that is. Yet again, if I hold off on the marathon and wait until I'm over 30, I get 5 more minutes. That seems like more than enough reason for me to bike along the path, while Frank runs, guiding him and hydrating him, spending less time on myself and more time on others. Maybe the backseat is better for now.

I'll be the best damn cheerleader a marathon has ever seen.

  1. OOOoooohhhhhh, you could wear a cute outfit, and make a banner!

And Sara, you're a runner at heart. You're never going to actually stop. You're just not training for this 'thon. And that's okay, because you haven't given up. You still have the desire but at the moment you have other talents that need to be perfected. Like Starbucks.

    :)
